The Metadata3 project (also known as md3) is a peer-to-peer application that provides access to quality metadata, and the ability to translate between different metadata schemes at the semantic, structural, and/or syntactical layers. It uses JXTA technology for p2p networking.

Visit the sourceforge page of the md3 project for more information.

Version 0.1 Released! - We've release the initial code for the md3 application. This is definitely a developer's release; the basic p2p functions are there, but everything is still very clunky and not well tested. Also, and very importantly, we haven't started tackling the metadata translation part yet (metadata translation should debut in version 0.2). However, if you are interested in helping with the problem, download the release file, take a look around, and try it out. NOTE: I haven't put the 0.1 version into CVS yet; I want to do some re-arranging of the files for better seperation of the java and class files first.

We've run into a couple of roadblocks in getting the 0.1 version ready, but nothing too serious. We are now shooting for Friday, January 17.

We are closing in on releasing a 0.1 version of the md3 application. The initial version will connect to the md3 p2p network, find other peers on that network, list a peer's available metadata files, download a metadata file from another peer, and display the contents of that file. Our milestone date for the 0.1 release is Monday, January 13.

Added the FAQ, downloads, and links pages. Basically, the site is now complete enough to go live.

The website has undergone a slight revision, in order to simplify its structure and minimize the amount of administration it needs. The goal date of our milestone 0.1 release of the md3 application is Nov. 30.

I have hired a graduate student programmer at 10 hrs/wk to help with the implementation of the md3 application. This position is funded through a University of Arizona Library SOAR grant.
